METASPACE, Korea’s top-class astronomical observatory and planetarium design and manufacturing company, commissioned a new office project in Osong-eup, Cheongju-si,
Chungcheongbuk-do with intent to integrate their offices in Seoul and Osong near the KTX train station. The client wanted to provide a workspace and sufficient rest space for
employees to conduct various activities such as research, manufacturing, test, and meeting in a free atmosphere. In addition, there was a plan to install a small observatory on the
roof for tests and actual observations of various devices in the future.
Reflecting the corporate identity of METASPACE, a space-oriented company, some astronomical elements were used as design elements. The volume of the 1st and 2nd floors and
the volume of the 3rd floor are shifted by 23.5°, which is the angle of the Earth’s rotation axis, and the facade of the building is arranged to face southeast, so that heat gain due
to solar radiation in summer can be reduced. Eight deep vertical windows which symbolizes the eight planets of the solar system on the façade of the second floor play the role of a
vertical louver, and the third one which corresponds to the Earth, has a different appearance to make it recognizable not only inside but also outside.
Construction started in August 2021 and is scheduled to be completed in April 2022.
